Principal's Message

Dear Cubberley Families:

I hope you all had a fabulous summer and that you are looking forward to the start of a new school year. My name is Cathleen Imbroane and I am your new principal. I have been employed in the Long Beach Unified School District for 22 years. This is my 18th year in administration and my 10th year as a K-8 Principal. I am excited to meet all of you and to work with your children.

My focus is and has always been to prepare students for the challenges of high school and beyond. As a former high school teacher, and a parent of a high school student in our district, I am keenly aware of the knowledge and skills that our students need to possess in order to be successful when they leave Cubberley. It is my goal that all of our elementary students are achieving at or above grade level so they can be prepared for our middle school program. Similarly, it is my desire that all of our middle school students are prepared for the high school choice process and that they surpass the minimum requirements to get into the specialized program of their choice. We have a tremendously talented staff at Cubberley who facilitate your students’ learning each day, and I will be working with them to ensure that they set the highest expectations for academics and citizenship in order to maximize your student’s learning potential and to educate the whole child.

We are blessed to work, learn, and play at a K-8 school. This opportunity gives us time to build strong relationships with our students and watch them grow physically, emotionally, socially, and academically. As a product of and a former teacher at a K-8 school, I look back on my years in that environment with fond memories. The relationships that I made with classmates, colleagues, and students have lasted a lifetime, and I hope that your students will look back on their years at Cubberley as being some of the best times of their lives.  It is my vision to create a school where students are excited to be each day. I want them to look forward to coming to school and I want them to feel that they are a part of something special.

Parents are an integral part of the learning experience, and we count on the support of our Cubberley families to ensure that all students meet their personal goals. We have an amazing PTA and Foundation here that work tirelessly to provide opportunities and experiences for our students. If you are not part of the PTA or Foundation, please consider joining and contributing in any way you can. Everyone has unique talents or gifts they can bring to an organization, and if everyone works on one aspect of the school program that they are passionate about, these programs will continue to grow and flourish.

I am excited for what lies ahead and know that if we all work together, we will be proud of what we have accomplished.
