Back to School Information

August 14, 2019

Dear Cubberley Families:

Welcome back to the 2019-2020 School Year! I hope that you all had an amazing summer and are excited to embark on a new school year. I am looking forward to the school year with great anticipation and am excited about the new staff members that will be joining our wonderful Cubberley family, including our new office manager, Mr. David Valdez. Please take a few minutes to read over this information which will be helpful as you are making your final preparations to begin the school year.

School Office Hours – The office will be open for the fall beginning on Monday, August 19th at 10:30 a.m. Office hours after August 19th will be from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

6th Grade Orientation - Orientation for all 6th grade students and parents will be Thursday, August 22nd from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the auditorium. PE Clothes will be available for purchase in the office, and PTA will be selling spirit shirts and memberships in front of the auditorium before and after the orientation. 6th Grade students and parents will receive valuable information and will receive an advance copy of their class schedule. PTA will also be providing a BBQ lunch for students directly following the orientation in the lunch bench area.

Class Placements - Elementary class placements and middle school schedules will be available via ParentVue (or SchoolLoop for middle school students) on or after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 23th or in person on the first day of school. Elementary parents who do not have access to ParentVue may obtain their child’s class placement from the main office on the first day of school. Middle school schedules will be distributed in the lunch bench area before school by last name and grade. It is possible that student schedules may be changed by administration during the first 20 days of school in order to balance classes. We will try our best to accommodate students’ elective requests, but due to class size constraints, they are not guaranteed. Students who may be scheduled incorrectly (missing a class, assigned to the wrong grade level) should report the issue to the counselor, Mr. Dixon.

The First Day of School - The first day of school for all students is Wednesday, August 28th and is a district-wide minimum day. The playground will open at 8:00 a.m., and breakfast will be served from 8:30 – 8:50 a.m. The TK and Kindergarten schedule on district minimum days is as follows: 9:00 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. (Early Start) and 10:10 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. (Late Start). The 1st through 5th grade schedule is 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and the middle school schedule is 8:55 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Bell Schedule on Regular Days – Beginning the second day of school, the playground will open at 8:30 a.m. and will close at 4:00 p.m. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 – 8:50 a.m.

The TK and Kindergarten schedule is as follows: 9:00 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. (Early Start) and 10:40 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. (Late Start). Early Start TK and Kindergarten students who eat a cafeteria lunch will be
given a 20 minute lunch period and should be picked up at 12:40 p.m. Late Start TK and Kindergarten students will have a 40 minute lunch period in the middle of their school day (12:20 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.).

1st through 5th grade students start school at 9:00 a.m. 1st – 3rd grade students are dismissed at 3:05 p.m., and 4th and 5th grade students are dismissed at 3:10 p.m. On Thursdays, all students in 1st
through 5th grade are dismissed at 2:30 p.m.

The middle school schedule is 8:55 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Beginning the second day of school, students should arrive at Cubberley between 8:30 and 8:50 a.m. Campus supervision begins at 8:30 a.m. Valet service is provided for your convenience on both
Monogram Avenue and Killdee Street. After school, playground supervision is provided for 1st – 8th grade until 4:00 p.m. If you cannot pick up your child by 4:00 p.m., you will need to enroll your child
in Kids’ Club (K-5) or make other child care arrangements. Students may not be unattended in front of the school grounds after 3:45 p.m. At 3:45 p.m., they will be directed by staff to the supervised playground and should be picked up on Ostrom Avenue. Please make child care arrangements now for the fall so your child is not left unsupervised.

Cubberley Uniform Policy – In order to promote school spirit and a safe and orderly campus, all Cubberley students wear a school uniform every day. Please adhere to the guidelines when purchasing school clothes. The updated uniform policy is available on Cubberley’s website and was sent home in June. “Spirit Wear” is encouraged and may be worn in lieu of a uniform shirt. Please label all clothing and personal belongings. Students who come out of uniform will be given loaner
clothing or will call home for a change of clothes. Students who repeatedly violate the policy will be subject to additional school consequences. Students who may be in need of uniform assistance can
speak with Ms. Ortiz in the school office. Please support the efforts of Cubberley School by sending your student(s) in school uniform every day. There will be frequent opportunities for free dress days.
Please consult the Cubberley Connection Online or the Cubberley Facebook Page to stay informed of school events and activities.

On behalf of myself and the entire Cubberley staff, we are looking forward to a great school year. I am looking forward to seeing you all very soon. Go Cubs!
